Flyers, Jets battle in meeting of streaking clubs

Nov 15, 2013 - 4:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of teams riding their longest winning streaks of the season meet Friday in Winnipeg, as the Jets host the surging Philadelphia Flyers at MTS Centre.

Both the Flyers and Jets enter Friday having won three straight tests and Philadelphia will try to complete a perfect three-game road trip tonight.

The Flyers, who are 4-1-1 in their last six games after beginning the season 3-9-0, snapped a two-game slide with Saturday's 4-2 home win over Edmonton and then recorded victories on consecutive nights in Ottawa and Pittsburgh.

After opening their current swing with a 5-0 rout of the Senators on Tuesday, the Flyers were able to pull out a 2-1 regulation decision the following night against the Penguins. Brayden Schenn scored both goals for Philadelphia in Wednesday's victory over its cross-state rival.

Wayne Simmonds, Steve Downie, and Jakub Voracek assisted on Schenn's goals, while Ray Emery stopped 30-of-31 shots.

"We're gaining more confidence," Emery said. "It feels good."

Philadelphia has played some of its best hockey on the road this season, going 4-3-1 as the visitor compared to a 3-7-0 mark in the City of Brotherly Love. Following the conclusion of their road trip on Friday, the Flyers will return home for a three-game stay at the Wells Fargo Center. The homestand is set to begin Tuesday night against the Senators.

The Flyers claimed two of the three meetings against the Jets last season, but Winnipeg closed the season series with a 4-1 home win on April 6. The Jets have won four of seven versus the Flyers since relocating from Atlanta prior to the 2011-12 season and the franchise has taken 11 of the past 15 encounters overall against Philadelphia.

Winnipeg is 2-1-1 all-time against the Flyers at the MTS Centre.

The Jets began their current winning streak with a 5-0 victory against visiting Nashville last Friday and then recorded consecutive shootout victories over San Jose and Detroit.

Andrew Ladd notched the game-winner in the shootout phase to lift Winnipeg to a 3-2 decision in Detroit on Tuesday. Bryan Little and Zach Bogosian scored one goal apiece in regulation for the Jets, while Ondrej Pavelec made 41 saves for the win.

"It gets a little tiring playing overtime games but the shootouts are going for us," Little said.

Beginning with Friday's test, the Jets are playing four of their next five games at home. Winnipeg is 6-5-1 as the host this season and is riding a three-game winning streak at the MTS Centre.
