Marleau lifts Sharks to win over Oilers

Nov 16, 2013 - 6:43 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrick Marleau posted a goal and an assist as the San Jose Sharks took a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

Joe Pavelski and Tomas Hertl each scored, while Joe Thornton assisted on all three goals for the Sharks, who have won three straight after dropping the opener of their five-game road trip that ends in Chicago on Sunday. Alex Stalock posted 30 saves in the win.

"Early on we got our game going, lost it a little in the second, but came back strong in the third and got two points," said Marleau.

Nail Yakupov had the lone goal of the game for the Oilers, who have lost five straight and 10 of 11. Devan Dubnyk stopped 34 shots in the loss.

"We played better in the second and third, guys played hard and we had some chances. It is tough to come into the locker room after a loss, there isn't much you can say," said Yakupov.

San Jose got on the board at 15:44 of the first period while on the power play as Pavelski snuck in a rebound from the right side as an Edmonton player collided with Dubnyk, leaving the net partially uncovered.

It was a 2-0 game 1:29 later as a quick pass from Thornton at the right side was redirected in by Hertl in front.

The Sharks took a 3-0 lead at 3:45 of the second period as a transition play off a turnover saw Jason Demers' pass from the slot go to the right wing where Marleau one-timed it home for his 10th of the season.

Edmonton got one back on the power play at 12:48 of the second as Yakupov was able to one-time a bouncing rebound from the right circle for just his third goal of the season.

Stalock posted 10 saves in the third period to keep Edmonton at bay.
