Bruins visit Hurricanes aiming to snap road skid

Nov 18, 2013 - 3:29 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Bruins try to bring their current struggles on the road to a close Monday night as they visit the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.

After winning their first four road contests of the season, the Bruins have dropped three straight as the visiting club, failing to score more than two goals in any of those outings. They opened up a three-game swing on Friday with a 4-2 setback to the Ottawa Senators.

Boston got first-period goals from Loui Eriksson and Brad Marchand, the former adding an assist as well, but Ottawa rebounded by scoring three times in the third period.

Tuukka Rask made 27 saves, but felt he should have had one more on Ottawa's go-ahead goal, when Jared Cowen snuck a shot between his pads.

"I didn't see that (shot), but it went through me, so it's kind of a bad goal," Rask said of Cowen's marker. "I should stop that."

Boston had a four-game winning streak snapped despite Eriksson stretching his point streak to five consecutive games. He has a pair of goals and four assists in that span.

The Hurricanes return home after having a five-game point streak snapped with Saturday's 4-2 setback to the St. Louis Blues. Carolina erased a two-goal deficit thanks to short-handed goals by Eric Staal and Nathan Gerbe less than a minute apart in the second period, but got caught on a line change midway through the third period that allowed St. Louis to score the go-ahead goal.

"It was a tight-checking game," Staal said. "We got caught on a bad change."

Justin Peters stopped 28 shots in the setback for the 'Canes, who had won two straight and were 4-0-1 in their previous five.

Carolina saw Alexander Semin exit the contest early due to an upper-body injury. He has just three goals and nine points in 20 games this season and is without a goal in his past 10 games.

The Hurricanes have won five of their last seven versus the Bruins and three of the past four meetings at home.

Rask is 3-3-0 with a 2.63 goals against average in seven career games versus the Hurricanes, including six starts.

Peters has made three appearances against the Bruins with two starts, going 1-0-0 with a 4.64 GAA.
