Rask helps Bruins best Rangers
Nov 20, 2013 - 6:55 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tuukka Rask stopped 43 shots as the Boston Bruins took a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.Daniel Paille and Shawn Thornton each scored for the Bruins, who have won six of their last seven games.
"We had a tough stretch before these wins and we said that we wanted to do better in our own zone," said Rask. "We've kept it pretty simple and it's paid off."
Derick Brassard had the lone goal of the game for the Rangers, who have lost three of their last four. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 20 shots in the loss.
"We're not scoring and you have to come up with the big saves and I didn't," said Lundqvist. "All of us are just not getting the job done."
Chris Kreider was hooked on a breakaway by Johnny Boychuk during a New York power play with 6:16 played in the first period, but was denied on the chance by Rask.
Boston got on the board at 4:58 of the second as Thornton skated the puck down the right wing and wristed a shot in from the circle for his third of the year
Skating shorthanded, the Bruins took a 2-0 lead as a turnover saw Paille go the other way on a clean break and slide a backhand between the pads of Lundqvist for a 2-0 lead at 11:30 of the second.
On the same power play, New York was able to make it a 2-1 game with 7:29 left in the middle stanza thanks to Brassard's wrister from the left circle that found the back of the net.
Rask, though, stopped 11 shots in the third period and helped his team kill of an early penalty to hang on for the win.
