Preds' Mazanec blanks Blue Jackets

Nov 28, 2013 - 4:36 AM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Marek Mazanec made 19 saves to notch his second career shutout as the Nashville Predators beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-0, on Wednesday.

Matt Cullen and Nick Spaling both had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who have won five of their past six games. Mike Fisher and David Legwand also lit the lamp.

"The first 30 minutes, it was pretty quiet back there (for Mazanec)," Predators coach Barry Trotz said. "It was a pretty easy night for him.

"It was sort of a team win. We defended hard. We had some critical blocked shots when we needed, won battles, and then Maz made some saves when we needed."

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 25-of-29 shots for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 9-13-3 on the season.

The Predators drew first blood at the 9:58 mark of the first period. Ryan Ellis made a perfect slap-pass over to Cullen, who was all alone in the right circle to deposit his fifth of the year.

Nashville put two more goals on the board in the middle stanza. Fisher scored on the power play just 54 seconds into the frame and Legwand put home a rebound at the 8:56 mark to make it a 3-0 contest.

Spaling lit the lamp 2:02 into the third frame, as his shot from the right circle got past Bobrovsky.

"It looked like we lacked some energy, we lacked another step," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "But that's not an excuse. There's a way to win that game tonight, and we didn't find it."
