Lucic, Johnson lead Bruins over Columbus
Dec 1, 2013 - 3:40 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Milan Lucic scored twice and Chad Johnson needed to make just 13 saves as Boston bested Columbus, 3-1, at TD Garden."We talked about carrying it over from yesterday's emotional game. It was a full team effort from goalie out," Lucic said, referencing Friday's win over the Rangers.
Patrice Bergeron also tallied and David Krejci added a pair of assists for the Bruins, winners in four of their last five.
Ryan Johansen provided the lone offense for the Blue Jackets, who finished 5-8-3 in the month of November. Curtis McElhinney played well in defeat, stopping 33 pucks.
"We were two steps behind," lamented Columbus head coach Todd Richards. "In every aspect of the game, they were better than us. We made it much too easy for them."
Bergeron potted the game's first goal just after the nine-minute mark of the opening period, when his low bullet from the outer edge of the right circle beat McElhinney to the far side.
Lucic's redirection of a Torey Krug shot from just outside the crease 22 seconds into a Boston power play gave the hosts a 2-0 edge.
It was 3-0 for the hosts with 2:15 played in the third, when Lucic's point shot was deflected en route, then appeared to be batted out of the air and into the net by Jarome Iginla, who stood at the left post.
A brief review upheld the goal, and the score was eventually credited to the shooter.
Johansen collected his 10th goal of the season, a power-play marker to put Columbus on the board at 6:16 of the third. That was one of only five shots on net in a critical period for the visitors.
We went 3-and-1, that's a pretty good week, though we didn't get the effort we wanted in Detroit," Bergeron said. "Bounced back, perfect way to end the week."
