Hall's hat trick powers Oilers to 8-2 win over Avalanche
Dec 6, 2013 - 6:56 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Hall had a hat trick and added an assist as the Edmonton Oilers dominated the Colorado Avalanche, 8-2, at Rexall Place.Jordan Eberle, Mark Arcobello, David Perron and Ales Hemsky each posted a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who have won six of their last nine games.
Devan Dubnyk posted 33 saves in the win.
Nick Holden and PA Parenteau scored for the Avalanche, who had won five of six coming into the contest. Semyon Varlamov allowed all eight goals on 28 shots in the loss.
"We just played into their game tonight and we have to learn from it," Colorado head coach Patrick Roy admitted.
Hall scored his first goal of the game at 3:44 of the first when he was sprung on a breakaway and slipped the puck under Varlamov, and he made it a 2-0 game at 17:42 of the first period on a one-timer from the right circle while on a 5-on-3.
It was a 3-0 game just 15 seconds later as Hemsky took a pass in the slot and snuck home a backhand for his sixth of the year.
Colorado got on the board at 4:20 of the second period on Holden's second of the season, and Parenteau picked up the rebound of a Gabriel Landeskog shot and whipped it in from the right side at 9:28 to make it a 3-2 game.
The Oilers, though, got the goal back less than three minutes later as a 2- on-1 break saw Perron shoot it in from the right wing for his 12th of the year.
"He's turned into a great leader in our dressing room," Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins said of Perron. "He's one of those guys I can play anywhere."
At 8:55 of the third, Edmonton made it a 5-2 game when Hemsky fired a pass from the right boards to the slot where Arcobello kicked it from his skate to his stick then wristed it home.
Sam Gagner scored at 18:30, while Hall scored on a rebound attempt from down low with 10.8 seconds to play to wrap up his fourth career hat trick.
