Flames look to snap out of power-play funk against Canadiens
Oct 17, 2006 - 2:07 PM Calgary (2-2-1) at Montreal (2-0-2) 7:30 pm EDTMONTREAL (Ticker) -- If the Calgary Flames want to win some more hockey games, it would behoove them to get their dormant power play in gear.
Calgary tries to get the attack with the extra skater going when it takes on the Montreal Canadiens in the third game of a four-game eastern trip.
The Flames, 1-for-34 on the power play, are ranked dead-last in the NHL. They went 0-for-3 in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Mark Giordano led the Flames with two goals while Daymond Langkow and Matthew Lombardi each had a goal and an assist.
Montreal comes off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Chris Higgins and Sergei Samsonov scored for the Canadiens, who failed in their only power-play opportunity.
Canadiens netminder Cristobal Huet stopped 25 of 27 shots.
Three of Montreal's four games this season have been decided by shootouts. The Canadiens are 1-2 in those shootouts.
