Hutton helps Preds hold off Sharks

Dec 15, 2013 - 5:38 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Carter Hutton made 36 saves Saturday and the Nashville Predators held on to beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2, pushing their winning streak to three games.

Eric Nystrom, Roman Josi and Viktor Stalberg scored and had an assist for the Predators, whose winning streak comes on the heels of five losses in a row.

"We battled hard and were able to keep them away from us. It was a big win for us. We will enjoy this one tonight and try to move forward," said Stalberg.

Patrick Marleau scored with just under a minute remaining and the Sharks put a lot of pressure on Hutton at the end of the game, but couldn't net the tying goal.

Dan Boyle also scored and Antti Niemi gave up three goals on 23 shots for the Sharks, who have lost four straight on the road and five of their last six overall. Marleau and Boyle both had an assist.

Nystrom gave the Predators a 1-0 lead with 3:56 left in the first period when he deflected Victor Bartley's shot from the high left side past Niemi.

"Anything that got near the net, we were on the outside," said Sharks coach Todd McLellan. "You're not going to win like that."

Josi made it 2-0 with a power-play goal from the slot that beat Niemi high and to the glove side with 1:52 remaining in the second.

Boyle re-directed Matthew Irwin's shot past Hutton 7:28 into the third period to get the Sharks on the board but Stalberg scored after keeping it himself on a 2-on-1 with 2:39 left.

Marleau's sharp-angle goal from the low right side came after Boyle found him with a nice pass.
