Ducks pull out late win over Oilers

Dec 16, 2013 - 5:53 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dustin Penner netted the winning score with 3:17 left in regulation, lifting Anaheim to a 3-2 decision over Edmonton at Honda Center.

Teemu Selanne and Nick Bonino lit the lamp, with Jonas Hiller contributing 23 saves for the Ducks, who have gone 15 games from the start of the season (13-0-2) without a regulation home loss.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Sam Gagner tallied for the Oilers, losers of three straight games. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 31 shots in the setback.

"I have a lot of friends here. It was great years when I played here. It was nice to play here," said Bryzgalov.

Bryzgalov appeared in 69 games over parts of six seasons with the Ducks from 2001-2008.

On the deciding tally, the Ducks worked the puck between the points from right to left. Hampus Lindholm stepped up from his point position to shovel the disc to Ryan Getzlaf, and his one-touch pass to Penner found the back of the net for a one-goal edge for the hosts.

Edmonton skated 6-on-5 for the final minute of play to no avail.

Nugent-Hopkins gave the visitors a lead with 6:18 gone in the first, then Bonino equalized for the hosts just over six minutes later.

Selanne's marker off a Mathieu Perreault pass gave the Ducks a 2-1 edge late in the second, but Gagner forged another deadlock just after the midway point of the third by splitting two defenders up the middle and beating Hiller on a backhander.

"Paul (Kariya) texted me and told me to go to the net. He was right again," Selanne said.

Selanne and Kariya played together over parts of seven seasons.

Anaheim continued its recent stretch of domination over their new Pacific Division opponents, winning 15 of the last 17 against Edmonton since Mar. 31, 2009 ... Selanne picked up his first goal since Oct. 20, and also ended a streak of 16 straight point-less outings ... The Ducks' run of success at home marks the second-longest streak since the 2005-06 season, as the Sharks starting the 2008-09 campaign with 22 in a row on home ice without a regulation loss (20-0-2) the current benchmark.
