Ducks edge Devils in OT to run win streak to 7

Dec 21, 2013 - 4:12 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Palmieri potted the game-winner 2:37 into overtime, as the Anaheim Ducks downed the New Jersey Devils, 3-2, on Friday at Prudential Center.

On the decisive play, Palmieri sliced through the right circle while holding off a defender before dipping below the goal line, working around the net, and stuffing in a wraparound from the low left side to send Anaheim to victory.

"It was exciting," Palmieri said of scoring a game-winner in New Jersey, where he grew up. "It definitely added a little something to the game and the experience."

Palmieri, Cam Fowler and Mathieu Perreault each registered a goal and an assist, while Jonas Hiller stopped 19 shots for the Ducks, who matched their longest win streak of the season with their seventh straight triumph.

Andy Greene and Michael Ryder scored a goal apiece, while Cory Schneider allowed all three goals on 24 shots for the Devils, who had won two straight.

"We wanted that second point, we really did," Greene said. "We have to forget about it now and just get ready for Washington tomorrow."

With the scored locked at 1-1 just past the midway point of the third, Palmieri helped put the Ducks on top when he kept his balance just long enough on the low right side to slide the puck to the front of the net, where Perreault pounded it home for a 2-1 Anaheim edge at 10:47.

New Jersey answered on the power play at 14:58 when Jaromir Jagr's backhand feed from the low right side found Greene cutting backdoor, allowing the veteran blueliner to one-time the puck home from the low left side to tie the tilt at 2-2.

Following a scoreless opening frame, New Jersey jumped on top early in the second when Adam Henrique came up with a steal deep in the Anaheim zone and backhanded the puck toward the slot for Ryder, who swatted the bouncing disc into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at 4:15.

Anaheim answered with just under six minutes left in the middle stanza, as Fowler let fly a slapper from the left circle that sailed past the far side of Schneider to make it 1-1 at 14:06.
