Shattenkirk helps Blues top Stars in OT

Dec 30, 2013 - 3:12 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Shattenkirk's goal late in overtime lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars from American Airlines Center.

A night after tallying the game-winner in a shootout to top Chicago, Shattenkirk lit the lamp with 11 seconds remaining in the extra period on Sunday to help the Blues win for the fourth time in five tries.

"I think we just stuck with it," said Blues winger Brendan Morrow. "Playing back-to-backs aren't easy, especially a team that skates as well as this one. We just had to stay with it."

Jaden Schwartz and T.J. Oshie scored in regulation for St. Louis, while Brian Elliott made 28 saves to earn the win.

Dallas battled back from a 2-0 deficit with second period goals by Jamie Benn and Ryan Garbutt 3:18 apart to tie the score and force overtime, but ultimately fell short to snap a brief two-game winning streak.

"We had our opportunity in overtime but didn't get it done," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff.

Kari Lehtonen allowed all three goals on 22 shots to absorb the loss.

After Dallas defenseman Kevin Connauton was whistled for a tripping penalty in the final minute of overtime, St. Louis took advantage with Shattenkirk's game-winner, which he one-timed past Lehtonen from the left circle.

Schwartz opened the scoring when he tapped in a feed from Vladimir Sobokta just 2:41 into the first period.

Oshie capitalized on a Dallas turnover early in the second when he ripped a shot over Lehtonen's shoulder for the 75th goal of his career.

The Stars finally got on the board at 8:13 of the second with Benn's power- play goal, and they tied it moments later when Garbutt deflected an Aaron Rome shot from the blue line.
