D'Agostini nets winner for Sabres over Devils
Jan 5, 2014 - 6:18 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt D'Agostini scored the winner in the third period as the Buffalo Sabres took a 2-1 victory against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.Matt Moulson had the other goal while Ryan Miller made 21 saves for the Sabres, who had dropped three of four coming in.
Michael Ryder scored the only goal of the game for the Devils, who have lost their last two. Cory Schneider allowed both goals on 22 shots in the loss.
"I've got to find a way to get it done and win games this time of the year," said Schneider. "You can say it all you want, but you have to make it happen."
The winning goal came on the power play as Dainius Zubrus was in the box for interference. Steve Ott took a pass in the deep right boards and tried to wrap it in. Schneider made the save, but the rebound kicked out front and D'Agostini slammed it home with 8:11 to play.
"It was good. I've been getting the chances, just not capitalizing on them," said D'Agostini. "I was trying not to let that wear on me too much and just keep playing my game, but it was good to get one to fall tonight."
New Jersey pulled Schneider with a bit over a minute to play for an extra skater, but was unable to net the equalizer.
After a scoreless first period, Buffalo scored on the power play with 31 seconds to play in the second period. Tyler Ennis skated from the left to the right behind the net and tried a wraparound, but the rebound came out front and Moulson banged it in.
Ryder, though, tied the game with a power-play goal at 7:46 of the third as he lost control of the puck at the low left circle and it went to the front. The disc bounced off a player and came right back to Ryder as he wristed it home for his 13th of the season.
