Williams helps Kings best Bruins
Jan 10, 2014 - 7:01 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Williams posted a goal and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings took a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday.Dustin Brown, Alec Martinez, and Jeff Carter all scored for the Kings, who came into the game having lost six of seven. Jonathan Quick stopped 20 shots in the win.
"Jeff [Carter] played well, and got us going with his goal," said Los Angeles head coach Darryl Sutter. "I mean we've played well the last nine games, but this one worked out for us."
Justin Florek and Matt Fraser scored for the Bruins, who have dropped the first two games of this three-game California swing that will end in San Jose on Saturday.
Tuukka Rask was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on 18 shots. Chad Johnson finished the game in net and stopped 16-of-17 shots.
"We're just not getting it done right now," said Johnson. "I think we just need to regroup and take positives as much as you can from these games and realize what we have to do and can do to have success and win games and I think it just comes down to intensity and that passion to want to win games and I think it's consistently lacking right now."
Los Angeles got the only goal of the first period as Carter scored on a wrister at 10:32 to nab his 16th goal of the season.
It was a 2-0 game just 44 seconds into the second on the power play when Slava Voynov sent a lead pass to Williams, who skated down the right side of the slot and snapped a wrister into the left corner.
The Kings chased Rask from the net 61 seconds later as a left circle faceoff saw Robyn Regehr get the puck back at the point and send it over to the high slot where Martinez one-timed a shot past Rask.
Boston cut the deficit to two at 9:55 of the second as Carl Soderberg sent a pass from the left wing to the right where Fraser one-timed it home.
Los Angeles, though, put the game out of reach at 12:23 of the third as Brown beat Johnson with a wrister from the right circle on a rush.
Florek scored the first goal of his career with 2:13 to play to cap the scoring.
