Red Wings dispatch Canadiens
Jan 25, 2014 - 6:25 AM Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall and Gustav Nyquist each had a goal and one assist, as Detroit posted a 4-1 victory over Montreal at Joe Louis Arena.Riley Sheahan also tallied and Jonas Gustavsson halted 30 pucks for the Red Wings, winners of two in a row and three of four.
Brendan Gallagher picked up the lone goal for the Canadiens, who have dropped three straight and four of five. Carey Price made 22 saves in the setback.
"Everyone is still confident in each other, it's just a matter of getting to little details of the game and once you do that, the wins will start to come," Gallagher said.
Owning space to operate during a 5-on-3 advantage, Zetterberg rewarded Daniel Alfredsson for passing to him with a sizzling blast from the left point with 7:33 remaining in the opening period.
Detroit was up 2-0 at 11:48 of the second after Sheahan picked up an errant Canadiens pass at center ice, streaked in over the left wing and overpowered Price with a drive from the bottom of the circle.
"A good goal from Sheehan. Sheehan looks like a really good player," Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock said.
The Habs cracked the scoreboard just over a minute later while up a man, as Gallagher rushed the crease and beat Gustavsson on a stuffer try, before the Wings restored their two-goal margin at 16:29.
Kronwall slid in from his point position and wristed home a Nyquist feed from between the circles, and Detroit led 3-1 at intermission.
Nyquist officially wrapped up the game in the hosts' favor on his marker with 1:19 left in the contest, finishing off a 3-on-1 break with a successful one- timer from the right wing.
