Sharks edge Stars in OT

Feb 6, 2014 - 7:54 AM San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tommy Wingels scored 1:52 into overtime to lift the San Jose Sharks to a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

Marty Havlat had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who improved to 21-4-3 at home this season. Alex Stalock stopped 19-of-20 shots.

"I thought we played much better both zones," Havlat said.

Valeri Nichushkin scored the lone goal for the Stars, who went 2-0-1 on a three-game road trip. Kari Lehtonen turned aside 19-of-21 shots.

"It was a good point," Stars head coach Lindy Ruff said. "If you let go of the sting of the extra point, and take a look at the road trip, getting five of six points and playing the way we did, you've got to be happy."

All three meetings between these two teams went beyond regulation this season.

The Sharks took a 1-0 lead at 18:06 of the second period when Havlat redirected a pass from Scott Hannan past Lehtonen.

Dallas tied things up at 6:27 of the third frame when Nichushkin lit the lamp. Trevor Daley sent a pass to the low slot for Nichushkin, whose one-timer got past Stalock.

Havlat set up the game-winner in overtime. He made a nice backhand pass from the side of the net to Wingels, who banged it in for his 11th goal of the season.
