Kings' Quick shuts out Flames

Feb 28, 2014 - 8:02 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Quick stopped 25 shots for his fourth shutout of the season as the Los Angeles Kings took a 2-0 win over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Dustin Brown had a goal and an assist while Dwight King also scored for the Kings, who have won three straight.

"The first star of the game was Jonathan, no doubt about it," Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr said of his netminder. "When we were on our heels a little bit, he made the saves we needed him to."

Joni Ortio gave up both goals on 24 shots in his NHL debut for the Flames, who had dropped two of three entering the Olympic break.

"We had great jump and generated some good offense in the first period," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "We did everything right except scoring goals tonight."

Los Angeles got the only goal it needed just three minutes into the game as a Kris Russell lost the puck to the right of his net where Brown pounced on the disc and snapped it in.

Quick turned away eight shots in the first period, then 15 in the second to keep the one-goal lead.

Just 3:30 into the third, the Kings gave themselves some room as good work in the Calgary end saw the puck come out front and King jam it in for his 12th of the year.

Quick needed to make just two saves in the final 20 minutes to preserve the shutout.
