Ducks blank Blues

Mar 1, 2014 - 6:37 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonas Hiller posted his fifth shutout of the season as the Anaheim Ducks blanked the St. Louis Blues, 1-0, on Friday.

Andrew Cogliano provided the lone goal for the Ducks, who have won two straight.

"Everybody was sacrificing. I think we had more blocked shots than I had saves. It's great to get that win," Hiller said.

With the victory, Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau became the fastest coach in NHL history to record 300 wins.

"I don't really know what it means. I'm just happy we got the two points," said Boudreau.

Brian Elliot stopped 18 shots for the Blues, losers in two straight.

"Between missed nets and blocked shots, we've had over 100 in the past two games," St. Louis head coach Ken Hitchcock said. "That's the issue. Too many blocked shots, too many missed opportunities, too many shots missed the net."

Earlier on Friday, the Blues acquired former Vezina Trophy winner Ryan Miller and forward Steve Ott from Buffalo in exchange for goalie Jaroslav Halak, forward Chris Stewart and prospect William Carrier.

The Blues also send a pair of draft choices in the swap, St. Louis' first- rounder in 2015 and a conditional third-round selection in 2016.

The Blues turned it over at the Anaheim blue line and Saku Koivu flipped the disc up to Cogliano on a fast break. Cogliano faked a shot to the left before pulling back and lifting the puck over Elliot's pad.

With just 18 seconds left Blues' forward David Backers fired a clean wrister on net, but it was turned away by Hiller and cleared from the zone to seal the win.
