St. Louis scores twice as Lightning top Stars

Mar 2, 2014 - 1:32 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Martin St. Louis scored twice to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

Sami Salo and Nate Thompson also scored for the Lightning, who have won two of their last three. Ben Bishop posted 39 saves in the win.

"Bishop has been the MVP of this team from the beginning," said St. Louis said. "Without Bishop, I don't know where we are right now."

Antoine Roussel and Vernon Fiddler both posted a goal and an assist for the Stars, who had won two straight coming into the game. Kari Lehtonen allowed all four goals on 21 shots.

St. Louis scored just 1:25 into the game as Eric Brewer's pass hit off his left thigh and past the glove of Lehtonen.

It was a 2-0 game at 12:09 of the first when Thompson tipped in a Victor Hedman shot from the right point for his sixth of the season.

The score stayed that way until 14:31 of the middle stanza when St. Louis notched his 29th goal of the season on a breakaway.

Dallas got one back with 4:10 to play in the second when Roussel threw one in from the left boards, and the team made it a one-goal game 2:21 later as Fiddler snapped the puck in from the right side.

"We needed to fight back, and we did," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff. "We hunkered down, and went to work. When it was 3-2, we had two or three unbelievable opportunities to tie it up."

Salo, though, gave the Lightning some breathing room when his big slap shot from the left point fooled Lehtonen at 7:12 of the third period.

Bishop turned away all 15 shots the Stars fired at him in the third period.
