Vokoun looks to extend dominant play against the Devils

Oct 19, 2006 - 12:58 PM Nashville (3-3-0) at New Jersey (3-2-0) 7:30 pm EDT

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - Tomas Vokoun is making the most of his three-game swing in the New York metropolitan area.

Vokoun tries to continue his dominant play in goal when the Nashville Predators go for their fourth consecutive victory Thursday against the New Jersey Devils in their lone meeting of the season.

Yielding just two goals on 95 shots in his last three outings, Vokoun held off the New York Islanders in Monday's shootout before making 38 saves in Wednesday's 3-0 triumph over the New York Rangers.

Vokoun, who finished fourth in voting for last season's Vezina Trophy, recorded his first shutout of the season and 17th career after stopping the Rangers on three 5-on-3 power plays.

New Jersey has won three of its last four contests, including Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jamie Langenbrunner snapped a third-period tie with his third goal of the season and Jay Pandolfo added his first.

Two-time Vezina Trophy winner Martin Brodeur stopped 37 shots to become the third goaltender to record 450 career victories. He only allowed a second-period tally to Evgeni Malkin, who was making his NHL debut.

The Devils have won seven of the previous 11 encounters against the Predators, including a 4-3 shootout triumph January 19.
