Slumping Red Wings look to avoid penalties, third straight loss
Oct 21, 2006 - 2:34 PM Detroit (3-4-1) at Edmonton (4-2-0) 10:00 pm EDTEDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings have not looked impressive in their last two losses.
The Red Wings look to avoid their third straight loss when they conclude a four-game road trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
Detroit's season ended in shocking fashion last season on Edmonton ice when it was eliminated by the eighth-seeded Oilers in the first round of the playoffs in six games.
Detroit, which surrendered three power-play goals in a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday, have only killed off 15-of-23 penalties (65.2 percent) in their last two games. The Red Wings allowed five power-play goals in a 5-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
Edmonton, winners in three of its last four, come off a 2-1 triumph over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.
Ethan Moreau and Patrick Thoresen scored goals two minutes apart early in the first period to give the Oilers the victory.
Jussi Markkanen stopped 21-of-22 shots for the Oilers, who were blanked in eight power-play opportunities. It was Markkanen's first appearance since Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
No one has shouted yet.
