Kings look to bounce back from shootout loss

Oct 23, 2006 - 2:38 PM Los Angeles (3-4-2) at Colorado (3-3-2) 9:00 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Kings are coming off a tough loss and hope to turn it around against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Kings will take on the Avalanche in the second of back-to-back games on Monday.

The Anaheim Ducks erased a two-goal deficit and scored the game-winning tally in the fifth round of the shootout for a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday.

It was the fifth loss in last six games for the Kings, including two in a shootout.

Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky and Michael Cammalleri both scored in the first period and Mathieu Garon made 19 saves for Los Angeles. Cammalleri leads the team with five goals.

The Avalanche absorbed an equally tough defeat in a high-scoring contest, falling 8-5 decision to the Montreal Canadiens. In his return to Montreal, goaltender Jose Theodore was charged with all eight goals on 36 shots.

Andrew Brunette scored twice and Joe Sakic added a goal and an assist for Colorado, which had its brief two-game winning streak snapped.

Sakic leads all active players with 1,497 points and is three from becoming the 11th player in NHL history to reach the 1,500-point plateau.
