Stars begin four-game homestand against Canucks

Oct 23, 2006 - 2:42 PM Vancouver (5-3-1) at Dallas (7-1-0) 8:30 pm EDT

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Dallas Stars open a four-game homestand against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

The Stars can finally enjoy the home ice after playing five of their last six contests on the road. They posted their second straight win Saturday, a 4-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.

In his NHL debut, rookie goaltender Mike Smith stopped 22 shots en route to earning his first career shutout. He got the start in place of Marty Turco, who sat out after starting the first seven games of the season.

Mike Ribeiro scored his third goal of the season and Mike Modano tallied his fourth for the Stars, whose 7-1-0 start ties the best start in franchise history.

The Canucks will try to put the first blemish on Dallas' 2-0-0 home record.

Defenseman Lukas Krajicek netted a goal 2 1/2 minutes into overtime in a 4-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Netminder Roberto Luongo made 37 saves for Vancouver, which seeks its third consecutive win.

The Stars have won 13 of their last 20 meetings against the Canucks, including six of 10 here.
