Edler, Grabner guide Canucks by Flames

Sep 20, 2007 - 4:58 AM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Defenseman Alexander Edler and Michael Grabner each had a goal and an assist as the Vancouver Canucks blanked the Calgary Flames, 4-0, in a preseason contest Wednesday.

After nearly 39 minutes of scoreless play, Edler gave Vancouver all the offense it needed with 65 seconds to go in the second period, beating goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead.

Jason Jaffray doubled the advantage 96 seconds into the third session and Grabner made it 3-0 with a power-play goal at 7:34. Ryan Shannon, who was acquired from the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks over the summer, capped the scoring with 22 seconds to go in the contest.

Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider combined for the shutout for Vancouver. Luongo turned aside all 14 shots he faced before being replaced 11 minutes into the middle period by Schneider, who made seven saves the rest of the way.

Kiprusoff stopped 14 shots during his two periods of work for Calgary. Curtis McElhinney played the third, allowing three goals on just five shots.
