Isbister burns former team as Canucks edge Oilers

Sep 21, 2007 - 4:47 AM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Brad Isbister came through against the Edmonton Oilers in a way he rarely did as a member of the team.

Isbister scored with three seconds remaining in the third period, snapping a tie and lifting the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-4 preseason victory over the Oilers on Thursday.

A third-round pick of Winnipeg in 1995, Isbister spent 1 1/2 seasons with the Oilers from 2002-04, scoring just 13 goals in 64 games. Signed as a free agent by Vancouver during the summer, the 30-year-old Edmonton native scorched his former club in this one, beating goaltender Mathieu Garon as time ticked down in the third.

The Canucks carried a 4-2 lead into the session thanks to power-play goals by Brad Moran and Mason Raymond in the latter half of the second. But Andrew Cogliano scored at 4:55 of the third and Ales Hemsky tallied with 3:22 remaining, forging a tie.

Ryan Kesler had a goal and two assists and defenseman Shaun Heshka set up a pair of tallies for Vancouver, which limited Edmonton to just 11 shots on goal.

Defensemen Sheldon Souray and Tom Gilbert scored goals and former Canuck Geoff Sanderson added two assists for the Oilers.
