St. Louis, Richards lead Lightning past Red Wings

Sep 25, 2007 - 2:18 AM TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Martin St. Louis scored two power-play goals and Brad Richards had two assists to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday in a preseason contest.

The Red Wings jumped to a 2-0 lead less than four minutes in, but the Lightning dominated the rest of the night.

St. Louis, who was held out of Tampa Bay's first preseason game, has three goals in two preseason games.

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson scored on a power play in the opening two minutes and Johan Franzen scored his third goal of the preseason with 16:02 remaining in the first.

Defenseman Andre Roy answered for Tampa Bay two minutes later. St. Louis' power-play goal midway through the first pulled Tampa Bay even in the hotly contested period that featured nine penalties, including four five-minute fighting penalties.

Andreas Karlsson's goal 1:46 into the second gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead. St. Louis concluded the scoring with on a 5-on-3 power play on a one-timer thanks to a nice feed from Richards.

The Red Wings cut the lead to 4-3 with 3:31 left in the third as Brett Lebda beat Karri Ramo.

Tampa Bay goaltender Karri Ramo went the distance to pick up the win, stopping 20 of 23 shots. Detroit's Chris Osgood allowed four goals on 18 shots before being replaced by Adam Berkhoel to start the third.

The Lightning was without the NHL's leading goal scorer, Vincent Lecavalier (upper body injury), as well as forwards Michel Ouellet (strained hamstring) and Ryan Craig (herniated disc) and defenseman Dan Boyle (wrist surgery).
