Grigorenko lifts Red Wings to shootout win

Sep 28, 2007 - 2:29 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Left wing Igor Grigorenko's goal in the third round of the shootout stood up as the winner, giving the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning in a preseason game on Thursday.

Goaltender Chris Osgood denied Vaclav Prospal on Tampa Bay's last attempt to preserve the victory. Osgood finished with 19 saves.

Mattias Ritola and Valtteri Filppula scored in regulation for Detroit, with defensemen Brian Rafalski and Nicklas Lidstrom assisting on both goals.

Ritola scored the only goal of the first period when he followed Lidstrom's shot and slid the puck past netminder Johan Holmqvist at 5:05. A fourth-round pick in 2005, Ritola left the game later in the period when he was hit in the face with a puck and did not return.

Filppula redirected Lidstrom's low shot past Holmqvist for a power-play goal 5 1/2 minutes into the second period to give Detroit a 2-1 advantage.

Tampa Bay defenseman Matt Smaby scored from the point to even the game at 1-1 at 2:58 of the second and assisted on Michel Ouellet's goal later in the period to forge a 2-2 tie.

Holmqvist, who overtook Marc Denis as the team's starter last season, made 16 saves in two periods of action. Denis turned aside all 11 shots he faced before the shootout.

Both teams played without several regulars. Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis did not make the trip, while Detroit rested Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Tomas Holmstrom and goalie Dominik Hasek among others.
