Zubov, Robidas score in shootout as Stars win

Sep 28, 2007 - 3:30 AM DALLAS (Ticker) -- A pair of defensemen displayed their offensive skills and led the Dallas Stars to victory.

Sergei Zubov and Stephane Robidas scored shootout goals as the Stars posted a 3-2 preseason victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Joel Lundqvist and Stu Barnes tallied in regulation for Dallas, which outshot Phoenix, 28-11, before heading to the shootout.

Neither Marty Turco of the Stars nor Alex Auld of the Coyotes allowed a goal during the first three rounds of the bonus format, but Zubov - who was 5-for-12 on attempts last season - put Dallas ahead on its fourth opportunity.

Peter Mueller, the eighth overall pick in the 2006 draft, kept alive Phoenix's hopes by beating Turco. But Robidas fired a slap shot past Auld in the fifth round to give the Stars a 2-1 edge.

Mike York - who collected two assists - was the last chance for the Coyotes, but Turco made the save, securing the victory.

Lundqvist opened the scoring at 3:27 of the first period with a backhander, but Phoenix captain Shane Doan forged a 1-1 tie with four second left in the session, slipping the puck between the skates of Turco from the top of the crease.

Drafted 17th overall in 2005, Martin Hanzal put the Coyotes in front 3 1/2 minutes into the middle session with a power-play goal.

Limited to just three shots in the period, Dallas drew even on a tally by Barnes with 4:20 remaining. After Robidas hit the goalpost with a slap shot, Barnes wristed the puck past Auld for the equalizer.

After struggling in his first two preseason games with a goals-against average of 6.67 and a save percentage of .714, Turco responded with a strong performance, making 26 saves.

Auld stopped five shots after replacing David Aebischer, who made four saves in 31 minutes of action.

Jeff Halpern recorded a pair of assists for the Stars.
