Rangers try to win fifth straight here over Panthers

Oct 25, 2006 - 2:34 PM Florida (4-5-1) at NY Rangers (4-4-0) 7:00 pm EDT

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers will have to overcome their recent shortcomings at Madison Square Garden if they wish to extend their four-game winning streak here over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.

The Rangers are a subpar 2-3-0 at home during the young season, but have won four in a row and eight of their last 10 here over the Panthers.

New York seeks back-to-back wins after posting a 5-4 shootout victory over Toronto on Saturday. Brendan Shanahan scored the decisive goal in the extra session.

Jaromir Jagr and Michael Nylander added two assists apiece while goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves for the Rangers, who went 2-for-4 on the power play.

Florida absorbed its fourth loss in the last five outings and second straight following a 6-3 setback to Atlanta on Monday. Olli Jokinen had two assists while netminder Alex Auld stopped only 14 of 19 shots before being replaced by Ed Belfour.

The Panthers were 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Last season, New York went 3-0-1 against Florida.
