Senators looking to start season 4-0

OTTAWA (Ticker) - Backup goaltender Martin Gerber will be looking to lead the Ottawa Senators to their fourth straight win to start the season when his team hosts the New Jersey Devils on Monday.

Gerber made 35 saves in a shutout of the New York Rangers on Saturday, while starting goaltender Ray Emery continues to recover from offseason wrist surgery.

The 33-year-old veteran has led the Senators to wins in each of the team's first three games and is posting a 1.64 goals-against average.

Ottawa has gotten its offensive production from a couple of reliable sources in the first three games. Dany Heatley, who scored 50 goals to go along with 55 assists last season, has tallied three goals and two assists thus far.

Daniel Alfredsson is tied for the league lead with four goals and Jason Spezza has recorded four assists this season, a year after each had 87 points while helping Ottawa reach the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Devils bounced back from an opening night loss with a 4-1 triumph over Florida on Saturday. John Madden scored two goals and Kevin Weekes made 32 saves for his first win since December 12, 2006.

The win also gave Brent Sutter his first victory as Devils coach.

New Jersey, which lost to the Senators in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season in five games, has won the last three regular-season meetings between the teams.
