Briere, Flyers finish road trip against Canucks
Oct 10, 2007 - 2:00 PM Philadelphia (1-1-0) at Vancouver (1-1-0) 10:30 pm EDTVANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers probably wish they could play the Vancouver Canucks more often.
Daniel Briere looks to continue his successful start with the Flyers when the team closes out its season-opening, three-game road trip by visiting the Canucks on Wednesday.
Philadelphia has not played in Vancouver the past six seasons, but the Flyers are 8-0-4 in British Columbia in their last 12 appearances. They have not lost in Vancouver since 1989.
The Flyers signed Briere in the offseason to an eight-year, $52 million deal, hoping to improve from their dreadful 2006-07 campaign where they finished with the worst record in the league.
After tallying career highs of 32 goals and 63 assists last season, the 30-year-old Briere has a team-high three goals and four points in his first two contests.
The Canadian center scored two goals - including the game winner - in Thursday's 3-2 triumph over the Calgary Flames and tallied another in a 5-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
Vancouver will hope for some increased production from its superstars. Markus Naslund and the Sedin twins have combined for just five points in their first two contests.
Daniel Sedin did score - his first of the season - with five seconds remaining in overtime as the Canucks doused the Flames, 4-3, on Saturday.
Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo struggled against the Flyers when he was with the Florida Panthers, going 2-5-1-2 with a 3.30 goals-against average.
Luongo went 47-22-6 with a 2.29 GAA and .921 save percentage in 76 games en route to finishing runner-up for both the Hart and Vezina Trophies last season.
