Ottawa looks to remain unbeaten

Oct 11, 2007 - 1:56 PM Carolina (2-1-1) at Ottawa (5-0-0) 7:30 pm EDT

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Ottawa Senators are off to a great start in defending their Eastern Conference title.

Ottawa looks to win their sixth straight game to start off the season when they host the team that won the Stanley Cup two years ago in the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

The Senators have won each of their last three games by two goals, including a 3-1 victory over Atlanta on Wednesday. Rookie goaltender Brian Elliot stopped 27 shots for the win in his NHL debut.

Daniel Alfredsson leads Ottawa with nine points, including five goals, while Jason Spezza has eight assists in the team's first five games.

Carolina has been led by 22-year-old Eric Staal so far this year. Having scored 75 goals over the past two seasons, Staal has tallied four times through the team's first four games this season.

Fourteen different players have recorded a point, including nine different goal scorers in Carolina's 7-1 rout of Toronto on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes have lost their last three meetings against the Senators.
