Biron, Flyers look to continue red-hot start

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Martin Biron has not yielded a goal for over 137 minutes.

Biron will look to build off back-to-back shutouts as the Philadelphia Flyers go for their fourth straight win when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday in a battle of Eastern Conference division leaders.

The 30-year-old netminder turned aside 38 shots against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday and made 31 saves in Tuesday's victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Biron, who came to Philadelphia in a midseason trade with the Buffalo Sabres last season, has started every game this campaign and has won four straight contests. He has yielded just three goals over his current streak.

Great goaltending has been only one part of the Flyers' winning formula. The offense has exploded for 25 goals this season. Daniel Briere, who signed a huge deal in the offseason, has collected four goals and nine points for his new club.

The Hurricanes' offense has enjoyed some success as well. They have notched 18 goals in their last four contests, going 3-0-1 in that span.

Eric Stahl leads the club with five goals and eight points and Justin Williams has collected seven assists this season.

Carolina's three-game winning streak was snapped when netminder Cam Ward allowed all three skaters to score in Friday's shootout with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
