Brodeur, Devils continue road travels, face Islanders

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils are nearly finished with their harrowing road trip.

Brodeur and the Devils aim for their third win in four games when they face the division rival New York Islanders on Saturday.

New Jersey was blanked, 4-0, by the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday to snap a two-game road winning streak. The Devils have started the 2007-08 season with nine straight away from home while the finishing touches are being put on their new arena in Newark.

The 35-year-old Brodeur has struggled recently, giving up 13 goals in his last three games. He allowed all four goals on just 18 shots vs. the Flyers.

However, the future Hall of Famer is 38-17-2 with four ties, a 2.17 GAA and 10 shutouts against the Islanders. The 38 wins are tied for his most against any opponent while the 10 shutouts are three more than he has had vs. any team.

The Islanders are coming off a 5-2 road win vs. the Washington Capitals on Thursday that saw veteran free agent signee Bill Guerin complete his ninth career hat trick.

It was the first goals of the season for the 16-year veteran, who signed a two-year deal with the club in July.

New York also has a pretty good netminder in the form of Rick DiPietro. The 26-year-old made 27 saves against Washington to improve to 4-2-0 with a 2.18 GAA this season. He has allowed two goals or fewer in five straight games.
