Wild look to stay perfect at home vs. rival Avalanche
Oct 21, 2007 - 1:07 PM Colorado (4-3-0) at Minnesota (6-0-1) 7:00 pm EDTST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) - The Minnesota Wild will look to stay unbeaten at home when they host their Northwest Division rival Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.
Minnesota, which has won its first three games here this season, is the only team in the league yet to lose in regulation.
Chances are that will remain the case, considering the Wild have been nearly unbeatable here. Minnesota posted 29 home wins a season ago, good for second in the league, and has won six straight at the Excel Energy Center dating to last season.
Eric Belanger, who signed with the Wild as a free agent, scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 3-1 win over St. Louis.
One of the reasons Minnesota is off to a great start this season is the play of goaltender Niklas Backstrom, who has a 1.38 goals-against average. In addition to that, Backstrom is 3-0-0 with a 0.67 GAA at home as well as 3-0-1 with a 2.16 GAA in four games vs. the Avalanche.
He should be fresh after watching backup netminder Josh Harding stop 33 shots in Saturday's win.
The Wild's home dominance should continue against Colorado, which is winless in three road games this season. The Avalanche have not lost four straight road games since 1991-92, when the franchise located in Quebec.
Colorado went 4-2-2 against Minnesota last season.
