Roenick continues drive towards 500 vs. Flames
Oct 22, 2007 - 1:45 PM San Jose (4-3-1) at Calgary (4-2-2) 9:00 pm EDTCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Jeremy Roenick is looking to become just the third American-born player in history to reach the 500-goal milestone.
Roenick will hope to add to his 498 career goals Monday night when the San Jose Sharks visit the Calgary Flames in a battle of Western Conference rivals.
The 19-year veteran is looking to become just the third American-born player to reach the 500-goal plateau, joining Mike Modano (508) and Joe Mullen (502). He is currently tied with Glenn Anderson for 40th on the all-time list.
The 37-year-old Roenick, who has collected two game-winning goals this season, has 20 career tallies in 50 contests against the Flames.
He will be joined by Joe Thornton, who leads the Sharks with six assists and nine points. The first overall choice in the 1997 Draft has registered 188 assists over the past seasons.
Thornton may have won the Hart Trophy in 2006, but Jarome Iginla is playing like an MVP candidate right now. Iginla has had four consecutive multi-point games and has tallied five goals and 13 points so far this season.
Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff has not lost in regulation since October 10. The 30-year-old Finn, who will celebrate a birthday when the Flames host the Colorado Avalanche on Friday, is 4-2-2 with a 3.05 goals-against average and .888 save percentage.
On the other end of the rink, Evgeni Nabokov is coming off a shutout, making 22 saves in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Nabokov has posted a 9-7-2-0 record with a 2.25 GAA and two shutouts.
