Thrashers look for a spark against Maple Leafs

TORONTO (Ticker) - The Atlanta Thrashers have been a huge disappointment so far this season. They will try to turn it around when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.

The Thrashers made a coaching change after beginning the season 0-6-0 by firing Bob Hartley.

General manager Don Waddell took over and guided the team to its first victory, but the good luck provided by their general manager-turned-coach lasted just one game as Atlanta came crashing back to earth Saturday with an embarrassing 6-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Chris Gratton, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis each recorded a goal and an assist and Vaclav Prospal scored twice for the Lightning, who beat the hapless Thrashers for the second time already this season.

Waddell will try to make his record 2-1-0 against the Maple Leafs, who rank last in the league with 37 goals allowed this season.

Both Toronto and Atlanta have had goaltending issues, with Andrew Raycroft and Vesa Toskala fighting for time north of the border and Johan Hedberg carrying a 4.73 goals-against average for the Thrashers.
