Zetterberg hopes to lead Red Wings to third straight win

Oct 24, 2007 - 2:06 PM Vancouver (4-5-0) at Detroit (6-2-1) 7:30 pm EDT

DETROIT (Ticker) -- Even though the Vancouver Canucks have kept him in check throughout his career, nobody has been able to stop Henrik Zetterberg this season.

Zetterberg will look to extend his nine-game point streak when the Detroit Red Wings host the Canucks on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Zetterberg has registered at least one point in each game this season and leads the NHL with 17 points. He has tallied a goal and an assist in each of the Red Wings' previous two contests - both wins.

Zetterberg, however, has not fared too well against Vancouver in his career. In 15 games, the Swedish left wing has managed just four goals and two assists against the Western Conference foe.

For Zetterberg to add to his league-leading point total, he will have to figure out a way to beat Vezina and Hart Trophy runner-up Roberto Luongo. The Canucks netminder is off to a slow start, going 3-5-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average and .896 save percentage this season.

Luongo has been on the losing end of his last three starts, surrendering nine goals since beating the Edmonton Oilers on October 13.

The Vancouver offense has been led by the Sedin twins. Daniel Sedin leads the club with nine points and Henrik Sedin has collected eight points so far. Brendan Morrison has tallied a team-leading four goals.

Even with six-time Vezina recipient Dominik Hasek on the roster, Chris Osgood is making a serious claim that he should be the club's staring goaltender. Osgood has posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.67 GAA, while Hasek is just 3-2-1 with a 2.79 GAA and .879 save percentage.
