Flames set for ignition against Avalanche
Oct 26, 2007 - 1:59 PM Colorado (5-4-0) at Calgary (5-3-2) 9:00 pm EDTCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Calgary Flames are starting to catch fire.
After handing the Minnesota Wild their first regulation loss of the season in their last contest, the Calgary Flames will try to build on that momentum when they face the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.
The Flames rebounded from a 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Monday to edge the Wild, 5-3, on Wednesday. Calgary was trailing, 3-0, at the end of the first period before rallying for five unanswered goals - including two by Alex Tanguay - for its third win in four games.
The two goals for Tanguay were his first two of the new campaign after scoring 22 last season. Despite a lack of tallies, the 27-year-old left wing has contributed nine assists this season after registering 59 a year ago.
Tanguay, who spent six seasons with the Avalanche after being selected 12th overall in the 1998 NHL draft, will likely be looking for retribution on Friday. He has one goal and 11 assists in nine career games against his former team.
The Avalanche have yet to find consistency this season, alternating wins and losses in their first four games before winning two straight and losing two straight. Colorado snapped the brief slide with a 4-2 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers in their last game on Tuesday.
