Rangers still desperate for some offense

Oct 29, 2007 - 1:35 PM Tampa Bay (5-3-1) at NY Rangers (3-6-1) 7:00 pm EDT

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Captain Jaromir Jagr will look to get the sputtering New York Rangers' offense going when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.

The Rangers were expected to be an offensive juggernaut after adding Chris Drury and Scott Gomez to a team that already included 600-goal scorers Jagr and Brendan Shanahan.

The club, however, has managed just three goals over their last four games, losing three of them.

Jagr scored the only goal in a 4-1 setback to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. The 35-year-old Czech has tallied just two goals and nine points this season.

Jagr, however, has enjoyed some success against the Lightning in his career, notching 30 goals and 36 assists in 54 games. He has also registered five game-winning tallies against the Eastern Conference foe.

While the offense has struggled, New York has relied heavily on Henrik Lundqvist. The Swedish netminder has figured in every decision for the club despite a 1.90 goals-against average and .928 save percentage with two shutouts.

Lundqvist has yielded just four goals in his previous four games, but has only one win over that stretch.

On the other end of the rink, Johan Holmqvist will try to continue his impressive start. The 29-year-old Holmqvist is 5-1-1 with a 2.70 GAA this season.

He will make his fifth career start against the Rangers, going 2-2-0 with a 3.45 GAA against them previously.

Vaclav Prospal, who leads Tampa Bay with nine goals and 12 points, will try to extend his four-game point streak. Brad Richards is on a six-game points streak, registering three goals and seven assists in that span.
