LaBarbera, Kings set to face Nash and Blue Jackets

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- A pair of former NHL doormats are enjoying some early-season success.

The Los Angeles Kings host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night in a matchup of teams riding high.

The Kings have won four straight games to move to the top of the Pacific Division on the strength of goaltender Jason LaBarbera, who was named the league's "First Star" of the week on Monday after allowing just two goals in three starts.

The highlight of his week came in a 6-0 win over the Nashville Predators in which he stopped 17 shots for his second career shutout.

Los Angeles finished 14th in the Western Conference last season with just 68 points while the Blue Jackets posted 73 points and were 11th.

Like the Kings, Columbus has gotten off to a hot start and won three straight by a combined margin of 12-5.

All-Star Rick Nash leads the Blue Jackets' attack with eight goals, including three in the last three games, and top netminder Pascal Leclaire is 5-2-0 with a 1.29 GAA this season.
