Flyers look to rebound against Capitals

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Flyers got off to a fast start this season. They've been coming back down to earth lately.

They will try to pick the pace back up when they visit the Washington Capitals on Friday.

The Flyers were the worst team in the NHL last season, totaling just 56 points and posting 48 loses. It marked the worst season in franchise history.

But they started this season strong, notching wins in six of their first seven games. However, they have lost three of four since, failing to score more than three goals in any of the contests.

The Flyers added Daniel Briere in the offseason, and the 30-year-old center scored four goals in the team's first three games, but has failed to find the net in each of the last eight contests.

The Capitals, who took all four games from Philadelphia last season, suffered a letdown on Thursday, dropping a 2-0 decision to the New York Rangers.

The shutout loss came on the heels of a 7-1 thrashing of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Third-year sensation Alexander Ovechkin tallied a pair of goals in that game, and has eight on the season.

Washington has lost seven of nine after opening the season with three wins.
