Ellis, Predators aim for third straight win vs. Blackhawks

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The solid play of backup netminder Dan Ellis has the Nashville Predators aiming for their season-high third straight win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

Ellis stopped 30 shots in Friday's 4-1 win over Edmonton, just one day after recording his second career shutout in a 3-0 win over Vancouver.

Ellis, who started just one game prior to signing with the Predators this past offseason, has emerged because of the failures of No. 1 goaltender Chris Mason.

Mason inherited the starting job after Nashville traded Tomas Vokoun to Florida, but has lost a career-high seven straight starts.

Thanks in part to Ellis, the Predators have rebounded to win four of their last five games after suffering through a season-high six-game skid.

David Legwand has set the pace for Nashville, recording five assists and seven points during the last five games. The nine-year veteran has tallied a goal and an assist in each of the past two games.

Meanwhile, Patrick Sharp has the Blackhawks looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season as well.

Sharp scored two shorthanded goals in the third period to lead Chicago to a 3-2 win over St. Louis on Saturday.

Sharp's production was needed since their two outstanding rookies were shutout. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews failed to record a point in the win.
