Brodeur, Devils aim to snap out of funk vs. Penguins

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils look to rebound from a tough loss when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.

Brodeur stopped 26 shots on Saturday, but Petr Prucha tallied the only goal in the shootout for a 2-1 win for the New York Rangers.

New Jersey, which has lost four of its last six games, has limited opponents to just four goals in the last three games. However, the Devils' offense has been just as stagnant, having scored just six goals in its last five games.

Another reason for the Devils' recent struggles has been their penalty-killing unit. New Jersey has killed off just 71 percent of power plays and was victimized by Pittsburgh in a 5-4 win on October 17.

The Penguins scored three goals on five power-play chances in that game despite the loss. In addition to that, Pittsburgh has scored at least one man-advantage goal in its 13 games this season.

Like the Devils, the Penguins are also reeling, having lost two straight games despite holding two-goal leads in both contests.

On Saturday, Pittsburgh blew its two-goal advantage in the second period and was outshot, 38-25, in a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders.
