Thrashers seek third straight win

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - After starting the season with six straight losses, the Atlanta Thrashers are heading back toward their 2006-07 form.

The Thrashers seek their third straight win on Friday when they visit the Florida Panthers.

Atlanta won the Southeast Division title last season after finishing with a 43-28-11 record - its second straight 40-plus win campaign - and qualified for the playoffs for the first time in team history.

However, after being swept by the New York Rangers the first round of the postseason coupled with an 0-6-0 start to the season, the Thrashers fired coach Bob Hartley, replacing him with executive vice president and general manager Don Waddell.

Since the coaching change, the Thrashers look far more inspired, winning six of the nine games with Waddell at the helm - including back-to-back victories heading into Friday's contest.

The Panthers will look to rebound after suffering a 3-1 setback to the Tampa Bay Lightning in their last game on Wednesday. Kamil Kreps scored Florida's only goal against the Lightning, his first tally of the season.

The 22-year-old center has appeared in 10 games for the Panthers already this season after playing in just 14 during his rookie year last season.

Ilya Kovalchuk, who leads the Thrashers in scoring with 20 points - including 13 goals - is questionable for Friday's game due to back spasms.
