Roenick still seeking No. 500 as Sharks face Coyotes

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Jeremy Roenick is hoping to reach the 500-goal plateau against his former team.

Roenick will look to become the third American-born player to reach the milestone when the San Jose Sharks host the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday in a battle of Pacific Division foes.

The 37-year-old Roenick did collect an assist in Friday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks, but remained on 499 career goals. Roenick, who has four tallies and seven points this season, trails only Mike Modano (511) and Joe Mullen (502) on the all-time list among American players.

Joe Thornton has supplied the offense for the Sharks this season, notching six goals and 17 points. He has collected five goals and 22 assists in 25 career games against the Coyotes.

Phoenix will hope to continue getting production from captain Shane Doan, who leads the club with 10 assists and 13 points this season. Doan has not enjoyed the best results against San Jose in his career, tallying 11 goals and 28 points in 58 games.

Rookie Peter Mueller is off to a good start, scoring four goals and seven points in 13 career games. He has three goals and two assists in his last two contests, including his first career hat trick on Wednesday in a 6-5 triumph over the Anaheim Ducks.

Phoenix has won four of its previous five contests, scoring 23 goals over that stretch.
