Lightning, Capitals meet after ending losing streaks

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- After ending significant losing streaks, either the Tampa Bay Lightning or Washington Capitals will continue their return to form on Saturday.

The Lightning have won back-to-back games by a combined score of 10-2 over the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes after losing six consecutive contests.

Vincent Lecavalier provided the offense, collecting three goals and two assists in the two victories. The former No. 1 overall pick, Lecavalier has eight goals and 12 assists in 15 games this season. The 27-year-old center registered his first 100-point season in 2006-07, finishing the year with a league-leading 52 goals and 56 assists.

Lecavalier has dominated the Capitals during his nine seasons in the NHL, scoring 20 goals and 20 assists in 40 career games.

The Capitals got back on track Thursday, ending two streaks in one game.

Washington snapped the Ottawa Senators eight-game win streak with the 4-1 victory and ended a four-game slide of its own. Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in the victory and has a tally in nine of Washington's 15 games this season.

Ovechkin has nine goals and seven assists this season after recording 46 tallies and 46 helpers in 2006-07. Despite the terrific sophomore season, the 22-year-old left wing finished minus-19 for the year. The 2005-06 Calder Trophy winner is currently plus-2 in 2007-08.
