Devils' Brodeur eyes 500th win

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) - New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will look to become the second netminder to win 500 games on Wednesday when the Devils host the New York Rangers.

Brodeur was denied the prestigious honor on Saturday in a 2-1 loss to the New York Islanders. Patrick Roy is the only goaltender to have reached the plateau, winning 551 games in his 19 seasons in the league.

The game also marks the return of Scott Gomez to the Garden State.

Gomez signed a seven-year, $51.5 million contract with the Rangers in the offseason after scoring 116 goals and 450 points in his first seven seasons with the Devils. He captured a pair of Stanley Cup championships along the way.

The 27-year-old center has posted four goals and six assists for the Rangers this season.

New York won for just the first time on the road in seven games with Saturday's 3-2 shootout victory over Toronto.

The Rangers have won six of their last seven contests and are led by goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who ranks third in the league with a 1.62 goals-against average. The 25-year-old is 7-2-3 with a 1.54 GAA in 12 career starts against the Devils.

Offensively, New York ranks last in the league, scoring 1.88 goals per game and are led by Jaromir Jagr, who has 12 assists and 15 points.

The Devils are led by Zach Parise, who has nine assists and 14 points. Brodeur is 5-8-1 this season with a 2.77 goals-against average.

The Rangers are 2-0 against the Devils this season.
