Stars look for fresh start after firing Armstrong
Nov 14, 2007 - 2:21 PM San Jose (9-7-2) at Dallas (7-7-3) 8:30 pm ESTDALLAS (Ticker) -- Following the firing of general manager Doug Armstrong, the Dallas Stars hope to begin charting a different course.
The Stars, who have gotten off to a slow start this season, replaced Armstrong on Tuesday with interim general managers Brett Hull and Les Jackson.
"I thought that the team needed a change in direction," Dallas owner Tom Hicks said in a statement. "I know that change can be healthy, and it was my determination that this move needed to be made."
Dallas has lost its last two games to Western Conference foes Phoenix and Los Angeles, including a 6-5 overtime setback to the Kings on Saturday. The Stars lost a four-goal lead in the final eight minutes of the game.
One of the lone bright spots for the Stars this season occurred when these teams met last Wednesday. In that matchup, a 3-1 Dallas victory, center Mike Modano became the highest scoring American player in NHL history, passing former Calgary Flames defenseman Phil Housley.
The Sharks come into the game after back-to-back wins against the Phoenix Coyotes. The first game of the back-to-backs saw another American-born player, center Jeremy Roenick, score his 500th NHL goal - third in scoring by American players.
