Bruins searching for consistency

BOSTON (Ticker) - The Boston Bruins search for consistency on Thursday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Bruins snapped a four-game slide on Saturday with a 2-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres. Tim Thomas made 45 saves in the victory, helping Boston overcome its offensive troubles to pick up just its second win in its last seven games.

Against the Maple Leafs, the Bruins try to win back-to-back games for the first time since winning four in a row from October 12-20.

Thomas is having an outstanding season, ranking second in the NHL with a .950 save percentage and fourth in the league with a 1.65 goals-against average. The 33-year-old netminder has kept the Bruins competitive, as they have scored two goals or fewer in 10 of their 15 games.

The Maple Leafs are on a two-game slide, suffering one-goal losses to the New York Rangers in a shootout before an overtime setback to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Toronto is struggling on the blue line without defenseman Pavel Kubina, who is out indefinitely after injuring a ligament in his knee against the Rangers. The 29-year-old defenseman is tied for fifth on the team with 11 points and has been a physical presence on the ice, racking up 22 minutes - second most on the Maple Leafs.
